Future Education for Kindergarten Teachers
Abstract
Future-oriented education and sustainable education are pivotal for cultivating innovative kindergarten teachers who can adapt to the evolving educational landscape. This study explores the existing challenges in integrating future-oriented education into the training of kindergarten teachers within the current educational system. It investigates the competencies required for future kindergarten teachers, focusing on how these can be developed through a synergistic combination of future-oriented education and sustainable educational practices. The research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with 20 experienced kindergarten teachers and 10 educational policy-makers and curriculum developers. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes and patterns concerning the challenges, necessary competencies, and effective pedagogical strategies. Findings reveal that while there is an acknowledgment of the importance of future competencies, practical implementation in teacher training programs remains limited. Key competencies identified include critical thinking, creativity, digital literacy, and socio-emotional intelligence. The study proposes a comprehensive framework for integrating future-oriented and sustainable education into kindergarten teacher training, emphasizing experiential learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and continuous professional development. This framework aims to equip future educators with the skills to foster holistic child development and prepare children for a rapidly changing world. The research concludes with recommendations for policymakers and teacher training institutions to reform curricula and pedagogical methods, ensuring that kindergarten teachers are well-prepared to meet the demands of 21st-century education and contribute to a sustainable future.
