Abstract

This study examines the gender pay gap within universities, focusing on potential disparities in salary and career progression between men and women. Drawing upon a comprehensive dataset of university employees, the research employs statistical analysis to identify the factors contributing to these differences. The findings reveal a persistent gender pay gap, even after controlling for various human capital and institutional characteristics. The study further investigates the impact of departmental differences, subject areas, and leadership roles on the observed disparities. Recommendations are provided for universities to address these inequities and promote a more inclusive and equitable working environment for all academics.
